Open data

The database behind this site, offered back under the licence it came from.

Licence

The venue data is derived from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database Licence 1.0. ODbL is share-alike on the database: because our merged extract is a derivative database, it is offered here under the same terms. The written analysis, rankings and design of this site are Produced Works and remain our copyright — that distinction is in the licence itself, not an interpretation of it.

What the extract contains

17,658 venues across 17 regions and 1,482 named towns and suburbs: name, position, category, and whichever of cuisine, opening hours, contact details, accessibility and dietary attributes are recorded. Every field carries its own provenance, which is how the attribution on each page is generated rather than asserted.

Machine access

A per-town summary is published at /sideline-feed.json — venue counts and page URLs keyed by town slug, which is what the sister site consumes to build its cross-links. /llms.txt describes the site for language models, and /sitemap.xml lists every page.

Refresh

The OpenStreetMap layer is re-pulled quarterly. Public registers are refreshed on their own publication cycles. Coverage reflects what has been mapped and published, not what exists on the ground: a well-surveyed town looks busier than an identical town nobody has walked.
